On a Bender
Etymology of On a Bender is fascinating.
Perhaps it comes from times when Sixpences were made of silver & easily bent. Also, you could get happily pissed for 6d (thats how we used to write it pre-decimalisation) Why "d" for pennies? Thats another post :-) As could be pounds, shillings and pence. Farthings anyone?
