2 Wheels good, 4 Wheels bad
I took a Yamaha MT-07 demonstrator out for a spin to see how the engine/frame setup performed compared to my CBR600F3. It has the same basic design as the Yamaha Tracer 7 2025 that I fancy. I was blown away like a fart in Storm Floris. The verdict? Yes please!
The first thing you notice is the upright seating position. Much more comfy for those of us chronologically challenged. My legs were much straighter, as was my back. It feels very much like a trial bike built for the road, compared to the out & out racer of the CBR. Whe I got back on the CBR after the demo, I felt like one of those monkey-on-a-bike toys. 1-0. Yam
The next was the pleasing low down throb of the veritically opposed inline V-twin engine. the 2x350cc pots sounding much deeper than the 4x150cc's of the CBR. A totally different noise. The oompf factor really cut in low down on the rev's, making for a very eager pull away. (I almost had to lean forward for fear of popping a front wheelie). This combined with the much reduced kerb weight (183kg) of the MT gave for a really responsive feel. (CBR weight 206kg) 2-0.
The brakes were really responsive, not feeling like having to stomp on the pedal at all, 3-1
The seat was, however, poor, and sore bums may be a problem, (however the seat is different on the tracer) 3-2
Motorway riding was a dream. plenty of poke still at 70mph if needed, as is the CBR 4-3, Pleasingly though, there didnt seem to be the handlebar vibration problem that the CBR has at cruising speed - none apparent 5-3
The instrumentation was as up-to-date as you can get, and a huge improvement on the 90's vintage CBR 6-3
All-in-all, win for the Yam 6-3. I think I've found my new bike :-)
