The "knights" were good fun, too, hamming up the crowd interaction. "Our" champion happend to be quite dishy, with flowing chestnut locks, and a glint in his eye. The jousting was actually quite authentic, compared to the international jousting competition we saw @ Leeds castle.
On entry, we were told that we had been allocated to one of 6 "houses" - sitting in allocated zones, matching the colour of our cardboard crowns. Black & White, being Santiago de Compostela, iirc. This worked a treat, as all the yanks started chanting & rooting for their teams on the way in to the arena! A clever idea. It gave the competitions an edge, & a sense of ownership for the crowd.
I left with a slightly bitter taste, though after being ripped off @ the bar. We were asked which size glass we wanted the drinks served in, and pointed at a range. We all chose drinks in various size glasses. The bill for 7 drinks came to $175! Then we were told that included the souvenir glasses! Not sure that we need 7 pint or Litre beer glasses to take home.
Then, I noticed that we had been corralled into an area surrounded by "souvenir items", all at crazy prices. E.g. $60 for a T shirt. I got mildly excited when I noticed that the customer service desk were doing special occasion options, & thought I might mention that it was Kim & my 25th anniversary. The lady seemed delighted, and then showed me a list of packages ranging from $50 to $200, to help us celebrate. I politely declined.
Still, Dylan enjoyed it so much, he wants togo again this hol...
